Craftsman Mower Backfiring?
My question involves my Craftsman riding lawnmower with a 16 HP Kohler engine and hydrostatic trans. After approx. one hour of proper operation, engine starts backfiring and then won't crank. After cooling down, the engine will start and again run fine for about an hour and backfiring resumes. I recently installed a new solenoid, but with same results, A mechanic friend says it is either bad fuel, malfunctioning flywheel, or "electric package"? Seeking advice and opinions, thank you.
sounds like a malfunctioning flywheel. It sounds like the key is loose and after running for a while makes the mower go out of time slightly and makes the mower backfire. That's where i would look first.
