American manufacturers are fighting many demons. The gas crunch forced millions of Americans to suddenly re-evaluate their choice in autos. Suddenly the large Vehicles that they prefer are twice as expensive to operate. A general bias against small American cars that has come from a few decades of poorly building them. (these cars were poorly built because throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s the american companies were still concentrating on what sold more, trucks and large cars, and increasing emmisions requirements, the second problem being something the foreign automakers struggled with equally) This is a mistake they are still fighting the stigma of, even though for the past decade, +/- a year or three, they have built competitive cars. (unions started by protecting the worker, and have actually priced themselves out of tens of thousands of jobs, possibly 100s of thousands.) The restructuring that would have occured if they had been allowed to go into bankruptcy would have been better for GM. The attitude problem is not in the car company itself, it is in the government, the union, and he American people. Chevy does warranty their cars for more than 60 days. In fact they have extended their warranty in recent years to 5 years/100,000 miles. Soooo.so much for that ignorance. (they do offer a 60 day free return policy, maybe that is what you are thinking of)
