Lawnmower engine keeps dying?
The engine is a Kubota 3 cylinder gas. It is difficult to start. Once it starts, it won't idle. The rpms have to be kept fairly high for the engine to keep running. Once it is running, it runs rough, it misses, and then it stalls after about 30-45 seconds of operation. I let it sit for a few seconds and then I restart it, 30-45 seconds later it dies. The gas is fresh and good. There is no water in the carb. The electric fuel pump seems to be pumping a sufficient amount of fuel to the carb. The air filter is clean. It's getting air, fuel and a spark. When it dies, it seems to die for a lack of spark. Also, when I restart it, sometimes I have to use the choke (even though it's 90 degs here), and I see about 18 inches of flame come out the exhaust for about half a second. What could be the problem? It seems like there is something wrong with the spark/ignition system. The mower is about 6 years old and has around 500 hours on it.
